ABOUT US

For more than 30 years we have worked with wood making various products.

We work from the workshops of an old butter factory in the Victorian Gippsland town of Yinnar.  The building had its beginnings in the early 1900’s.  We refurbished the building into our current work space to create our unique pieces.

ABOUT OUR PRODUCTS

Red Barrel Range

Our red barrel range is made out of the oak from recycled wine barrels.  This is what we call “The 3rd Life of Oak” – first it was a tree, then a barrel, now a serving platter.   Many of our products still show the marks from the making process by coopers of the barrel and also the wine making process, therefore the products will still show signs of the timbers previous lives as wine barrels.  During the wine maturing process the timbers are naturally stained by the colour of the wine, this can be from a light purplish colour through to a dark burgundy colour.   Some of the colour is removed during the board making process.

We are confident in using recycled wine barrels for cutting and serving boards because we know that during their life time the timber has not been treated with any dangerous chemicals as used on many other recycled timbers. So we are confident they are food safe.

Australian Wattle Range

As Australian Wattle Woodcraft we have been making our Australian Wattle range of Tasmanian blackwood cutting boards for 25 years.  They are made from small sectioned timbers salvaged from the normal saw milling operations.  We sort and grade the timber to produce the best possible board that we can.   All timber has been kiln dried and accurately machined.  The use of small section timber makes a very stable cutting board.

General Information

Close grain hardwood timber is recommended for cutting boards.  Timber has natural antibacterial qualities; all our cutting and serving boards retain this quality when in use.  For more information – complete a search for “antibacterial qualities of wood”

All adhesives we use are food safe and 100% waterproof.  With correct care they will be long lasting and a pleasure to use.  For our recommended care see – care instructions
